What is Kunye Massage?

Tibetan Healing MessageIt includes techniques such as applying herbal-infused oils to the body, manual tissue manipulation, deep tissue work, identifying & acting on specific points, mobilizing the joints, and warming the body.   Kunye also includes gentle external therapies such as hot and cold compresses, herbal poultices, and application of heated oils.     
Kunye Massage has been employed by Tibetan doctors for many centuries.  It is one of the most ancient systems of massage in the world, and an important component of traditional Tibetan Medicine.

Massage using a herbal medicated oil  is traditionally an important therapy for Wind disturbance or rLung. Symptoms of imbalance of rLung are, among others, restlessness, insomnia, dizziness, stress, unbalanced emotions, depression, muscle cramping, stiffness and backaches.

There are four major massage strokes used in Tibetan massage

  • Stroking - application of oil, long longitudinal strokes (effleurage).

Rubbing - vigorous circular motion, friction.

Kneading "Acupressure" - deep localized, circular motion

        General - oil is applied to the body with rubbing, kneading, etc. This is a general treatment for stress disorders Remedial - specific pathologies are addressed with acupressure on specific acupuncture points.
